How Does Our Body Get Energy?
Energy comes from the three main nutrients carbohydrates, protein, and fats, with carbohydrates being the most important energy source. In cases where carbohydrates have been depleted, the body can utilize protein and fats for energy. Your metabolism is the chemical reactions in the body’s cells that change this food into energy.
Optimal energy metabolism requires getting sufficient nutrients from our foods, otherwise our energy metabolism underperforms and we feel tired and sluggish. All foods give you energy and some foods in particular help increase your energy levels, such as:
- bananas (excellent source of carbohydrates, potassium and vitamin B6)
- fatty fish like salmon or tuna (good source of protein, fatty acids and B vitamins)
- brown rice (source of fiber, vitamins and minerals)
- eggs (source of protein)
There are actually many foods that provide an abundant amount of energy, particularly those packed with carbohydrates for available energy, fiber or protein for a slow release of energy and essential vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.
The Importance of ATP
Foods are metabolized at a cellular level to make ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate) by a process known as cellular respiration. It is this chemical ATP that the cell uses for energy for many cellular processes including muscle contraction and cell division. This process requires oxygen and is called aerobic respiration.
Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is able to store and transport chemical energy within cells.
In addition to its crucial roles in metabolism adenosine triphosphate is a neurotransmitter.
NAD+ (Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide)
NAD+ is a molecule that acts as a coenzyme in many critical processes in our body, including cellular energy production, DNA repair, and sirtuin activity (enzymes involved in aging).
Potassium’s Role in the Body
Potassium is also an electrolyte and is mainly an intracellular ion which is required by all cells. The sodium-potassium adenosine triphosphatase pump has the primary responsibility for regulating the homeostasis between sodium and potassium, which pumps out sodium in exchange for potassium, which moves into the cells. It also plays a role in the function of the kidneys, maintenance of a normal pH, and cellular energy.
Phosphate’s Role
Phosphorus is an element that plays an important role in the body. Almost all phosphorus in the body is combined with oxygen, forming phosphate. Phosphate is one of the body’s electrolytes, which are minerals that carry an electric charge when dissolved in body fluids such as blood, but the majority of phosphate in the body is uncharged.
Bone contains about 85% of the body’s phosphate. The rest is located primarily inside cells, where it is involved in energy production.
Phosphate is necessary for the formation of bone and teeth. Phosphate is also used as a building block for several important substances, including those used by the cell for energy, cell membranes, and DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid).
In the form of phospholipids, phosphorus is also a component of cell membrane structure and of the body’s key energy source, ATP. Many proteins and sugars in the body are phosphorylated. In addition, phosphorus plays key roles in regulation of gene transcription, activation of enzymes, maintenance of normal pH in extracellular fluid, and intracellular energy storage.
Essential Oil – En-R-Gee
En-R-Gee is an essential oil blend that combines: rosemary, juniper, lemongrass, nutmeg, Idaho balsam fir, clove, and black pepper. This combination helps to boost energy, and restore mental alertness.
Most of us have energetic blocks and imbalances as well as energy-sabotaging habits that prevent us from accessing our full vitality, which leads us to feel exhausted, scattered, dull… even ill.
Kundalini or what is called Serpent energy, is a tremendous amount of energy that is hidden within you, at the base of your spine, only to be released when it is awakened. When this divine and spiritual energy is released, it transcends from a dormant state to energy that brilliantly transforms your physical, mental, and spiritual state of being.
Kundalini enters your body at birth and remains latent until ignited through specific practices. Once awakened, the energy of Kundalini expands upward, opening your chakras and flooding your body, mind, and spirit with the divine love-energy of the Universe, bathing you in bliss and enabling you to access a boundless field of love.
As the Kundalini expands, you will find abounding energy to reinvent yourself, physically and mentally, to change the very way you live your life.
DMG (dimethylglycine)
When we first learned about DMG and how valuable it is to the health of our body, we decided we must have it as a part of some of our Wellness Aids. So going forward, it will always be a part of our Energy Wellness Aid. Here’s some of what we learned …
Studies show DMG can positively impact just about all the different organ systems and metabolic pathways in the body. It is touted to be the key nutrient against all disease!
As an adaptogen, it helps the body adapt to environmental, physical, mental, or emotional stressors by improving immune response, enhancing energy, and supporting mental alertness.
In addition to helping the body regulate and manage stress, it improves efficiency in how cells function, whether they’re in the brain, heart, kidneys, or liver.
It improves muscle recovery after strenuous activity and encourages efficient energy production and drives cellular reactions, so the body works more effectively.
DMG aids in reducing homocysteine levels, a risk factor for cardiovascular conditions. It also has an impact on normalizing cholesterol and triglyceride levels and helps support proper circulation of blood throughout the body.
It can cross the blood-brain barrier, helps maximize brain function, bolster brain acuity, and improve mental focus.
A few more things DMG helps with:
- Adapting to environmental, physical, mental, and emotional stressors.
- Supporting immune, cardiovascular, and brain functions.
- Creating hormones, key vitamins, and nucleic acids for DNA and RNA repair.
- Improving immune response, enhancing energy, and supporting mental alertness.
- Improving efficiency in how cells function.
- Reducing fatigue and increasing energy.
- Normalizing cholesterol and triglyceride levels.
- Maximizing brain function.
- Improving mental focus.
- Enhancing the body’s natural immunity.
L-Glutamine
L-glutamine plays a fundamental role in cardiovascular health by serving as a substrate for the synthesis of DNA, ATP, proteins and lipids.
Additionally it seems to have potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects that can reduce risk factors for cardiovascular disease, such as:
- hypertension
- hyperlipidemia
- glucose intolerance
- obesity
- diabetes
Research has indicated that human growth hormone (HGH) levels go up nearly 400 percent after glutamine supplementation. This hormonal response leads to an increase in resting metabolic rate and improves the afterburn effect post-exercise.
This afterburn effect is essential for burning fat, weight loss and building lean muscle mass. L-glutamine benefits long distance athletes as well by boosting the immune system.
Cordyceps
Cordyceps are thought to increase the body’s production of the molecule adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which is essential for delivering energy to the muscles.
This may improve the way your body uses oxygen, especially during exercise.
The elderly have traditionally used Cordyceps to reduce fatigue and boost strength and sex drive.
Other benefits are:
- Increases Immune Function
- Slows Aging and Promotes Mental Clarity
- Improves Athletic Performance
- Enhances Sexual Function
- Regulates Blood Sugar Levels
- Supports Heart Health
- Combats Stress and Supports Mental Health
- Promotes Restful Sleep
However, it does have a blood thinning effect. So you will want to check with your doctor before using it if you are on blood thinners.
Ginseng
Like cordyceps, ginseng has been linked to improved immunity, reduced cancer cell growth, better blood sugar levels and enhanced sexual function.
Here are some more benefits:
- It has beneficial antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
- It could help improve brain functions like memory, behavior and mood.
- Research has shown that ginseng may be a useful alternative for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED) in men.
- It may strengthen the immune system.
- It seems to be beneficial in the control of blood glucose in people both with and without diabetes.
- It has been shown to help fight fatigue and promote energy.
Yerba Mate
Interestingly, the antioxidant power of yerba mate tea seems to be slightly higher than that of green tea. What’s more, yerba mate may contain seven out of nine essential amino acids, in addition to nearly every vitamin and mineral your body needs.
However, the tea contains very small amounts of these nutrients, so it’s unlikely to make a large contribution to your diet on its own.
Yerba mate has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that may boost your immune system. It can also boost energy and improve mental focus.
Yerba mate increases your body’s reliance on fat for fuel during exercise. It may also improve muscle contractions and reduce fatigue, all of which may contribute to better physical performance.
Human research suggests that it can also increase the amount of stored fat that’s burned for energy.
Maca (Nootropics)
There are many health benefits of maca. It is known to increase energy, vitality and prevent adrenal fatigue. It balances hormones, improves thyroid function and metabolism and is a natural antidepressant that can assist with anxiety and mental health.
It can improve fertility in men and women and can increase their libido and sexual function and improve prostate function in men.
It can increase bone density and strength, improve mental focus, memory, cognition, and boost athletic performance.
It is an all-round body balancer and builds resilience to stress.
So, as you can see, this is our recipe for endurance and sustained energy to get you through your day, without ‘old man fatigue’ getting in your way! Try it for yourself!
