Eye Disorders
The diseases or a disorder that destroy eye tissue and other parts of eyes can be referred to as the eye diseases. There are different types of eye diseases, which can either be minor, which doesn’t last for a  longer time or some can also lead to a permanent loss of vision.

There are different factors behind the causes of eye diseases. These factors include age, stress, infections, heredity, nutritional deficiencies, injuries or accidents, etc.

Age-Related Macular Degeneration
Macular degeneration is also known as an irregularity that affects the center of the retina, which is called the Macula. The Macula is responsible for everyday acute vision.
There are two types of Macular degeneration-

1. Dry Macular degeneration.
2. Wet Macular degeneration.

Causes of Macular degeneration

• Age, Smoking
• Obesity
• High blood pressure
• Exposure to sunlight

Symptoms of Macular degeneration

• Blurred vision
• A dark or empty area in the central area of vision
• Distortion of straight lines

Treatments for Macular degeneration
People suffering from Dry AMD continue with the aid of low vision optical devices. But Wet AMD is treated with injected medications or laser surgery by sealing off the leaking blood vessels.

What are floaters?
Floaters are small dark shapes that float across your vision. They can look like spots, threads, squiggly lines, or even little cobwebs.

Most people have floaters that come and go, and they often don’t need treatment. But sometimes floaters can be a sign of a more serious eye condition.

Almost everyone develops floaters as they get older, but some people are at higher risk. You’re at higher risk if you:

• Are very nearsighted
• Have diabetes
• Have had surgery to treat cataracts

What causes floaters?
Floaters usually happen because of normal changes in your eyes. As you age, tiny strands of your vitreous (the gel-like fluid that fills your eye) stick together and cast shadows on your retina (the light-sensitive layer of tissue at the back of the eye). Those shadows appear as floaters.

Sometimes floaters have more serious causes, including:

• Eye infections
• Eye injuries
• Uveitis (inflammation in the eye)
• Bleeding in the eye
• Vitreous detachment (when the vitreous pulls away from the retina)
• Retinal tear (when vitreous detachment tears a hole in the retina)
• Retinal detachment (when the retina gets pulled away from the back of the eye)

What is Retinal Detachment?
Retinal detachment occurs when the eye’s retina separates from its position. The retina is the thin layer of tissue located at the back of the eye. When detachment occurs, retinal cells cannot get the nourishment and oxygen needed from blood vessels.

Retinal detachment is painless. Do not assume that lack of discomfort or pain means there isn’t a problem.

Early warning signs of retinal detachment include seeing “floaters” or “flashers” or experiencing reduced vision.

What are the symptoms of a detached retina?
Some people don’t notice any symptoms of retinal detachment, while others do. It depends on severity — if a larger part of the retina detaches, you’re more likely to experience symptoms.

Symptoms of retinal detachment can happen suddenly and include:

• Seeing flashes of light.
• Seeing a lot of floaters — flecks, threads, dark spots and squiggly lines that drift across your vision. (Seeing a few here and there is normal and not cause for alarm.)
• Darkening of your peripheral vision (side vision).
• Darkening or shadow covering part of your vision.

Retinal detachment is a medical emergency and requires immediate attention. Left untreated, even for a short time, can result in blindness.

Cataracts

A cataract is a cloudy area in the lens of the eye that leads to a decrease in vision. Cataracts often develop slowly and can affect one or both eyes. Symptoms may include faded colors, blurry or double vision, halos around light, trouble with bright lights, and trouble seeing at night.

Astigmatism

Astigmatism is caused by an irregular curvature of the eye’s cornea or lens. If your cornea or lens isn’t evenly curved, light rays aren’t refracted properly. With astigmatism you have blurred or distorted vision at near and far distances. Astigmatism is very common.
